前幾天看了Michelle的Blog,看到她正在介紹《生活簡單就是享受》(Simplify Your Life)這本書,作者是出了這一系列「簡化你的生活與生命」的名作家Elaine St. James,我看了Michelle轉載的這一篇文章,心裡某一塊地方被觸動了,覺得我們打從來到這個世界,似乎就馬不停蹄地為了贏得更好的物質享受與生活而汲汲營營,車子、房子、衣服、首飾.....我們擁有了還不滿足,我們還要更多、更好、更貴、更華麗的。有了TOYOTA之後就想開LEXUS,但是有了LEXUS之後卻又想擁有BMW,我們似乎就一直在物質慾望的漩渦裡打轉,沒有停歇的一天,直到我們老了、累了、無奈地面對死亡。

看了這一篇Michelle轉載的文章之後,我突然有一種衝動,很想把Elaine James的這本書啃完,徹底地知道她書裡談的是什麼。於是,我上了AMAZON去搜尋,更以超級低廉的價格(網站上二手書的原價才美金0.01,加上運費三塊半!超級便宜啊~不騙你哩!)買下了她寫的「儉樸、簡化」(Simplify)一系列叢書中的兩本,其中一本就是Michelle介紹的《Simplify your Life: 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter 》,另一本是今天剛寄到《Inner Simplicity: 100 Ways to Regain Peace and Nourish Your Soul》。這兩本書看書名就知道,是分別從外在與內在去簡化我們的生活,由於談外在的第一本書還沒寄到,我今天就很高興地拿了這本討論如何重拾心靈平靜與滋養我們靈魂的《Inner Simplicity》讀了起來,書雖然是英文的,但遣詞用句很淺顯易懂,文字也很優美,每一篇短文都很雋永,讓我想一頁一頁地接下去讀。
當翻開目錄,看到Elaine James把一百種「Inner Simplicity」(心靈簡化主義)的方法分成六部分:Things you will want to do、Easy things to think about doing、More difficult things to think about doing、The hard stuff、Some fun stuff以及The real stuff。在一條一條檢視的同時,我發現心裡面一一響起了「叮咚」的聲音,說來好笑,但是我發現不管是從外在的生活,或是內在心靈的淨化、重建,Elaine James點出了很多我自己十分需要、甚至是渴望能做到的部分,一百條重拾內在簡單而快樂的要件中,我發現自己很渴望、也很想每天提醒自己努力做到下面這幾項:
- Figure out what need to do to get well
- Slow down
- Figure out what you don't want in your life
- Enjoy each moment
- Figure out what others have to teach you
- Smile a lot!
- Practice detaching
- Do the things you fear
- Release your attachment to possessions
- Just say no
- Examine the costs of not saying no
- BE honest with people
- Be patient
- Release the importance of self-discipline
- Stop worrying
- Stop judging others
- Get rid of your anger
- Take responsibility for your life
- Accept the thngs you can't change
- Learn to forgive
- Get out of relationships that don't support you
- Get your finances under control
- Get your body in shape
- Let go of the addicions that hinder your progress
- Figure out the right foods for you
- Learn to listen to your inner voice
- Create joy in your life
- Love a lot
